SWANLEA STUDENT COUNCIL
Welcome to Swanlea's Student Council page
How do I join the Student council? The Student council is made up of two students -one girl and one boy, from each year. You must be Year council member first in order to become a Student council member. Each form class in each year votes in a member of the Year Council. If you are interested in joining the Year Council, please speak to your Deputy Coordinator of Learning.

What does the Student council do?

Student council members discuss topics raised by their Year council representatives as issues for the school. In the past, the Student council has actioned all sorts of change around the school, such as ensuring there are more benches in the communal areas of the school, to arranging more water fountains, to taking part in important consultation with senior staff about things like the School Development Plan, for example.

What qualities do
I need to have in order to become a successful member of the School council?

You need to be confident, as you will act as a representative for your peers. You need to feel confident in speaking to them, and to members of staff, and relay messages clearly and productively.
You also need to be committed. Year Council members meet during registration once a week, and Student council members meet during lunchtime once every two weeks. It's a significant time commitment, and you need to be able to be commit to your responsibility.
You need to be assertive but still approachable. You need to be able to put forward the views of your peers in a coherent manner, which might mean that you need to be assertive in your standpoint. You also, however, need to still be approachable so that your peers feel able to come to you and tell you their views.
